Afshan Rezwi, MA, LMHC
I believe in the tremendous potential for human self-growth and positive transformation. I consider therapy to be the most effective tool for promoting self-awareness, facilitating gradual and meaningful changes, and living a holistic life. My approach to therapy is interactive and collaborative, involving active dialogue, shared goal setting, and client feedback. Embark on a journey of self-discovery and self-love with me to build a healthier inner core.
I specialize in helping individuals and couples dealing with anxiety, trauma, stress, depression, mood instability, academic stressors, relationship difficulties, identity issues, and life changes. As a person of color, I approach my work with a multicultural lens, focusing on deconstructing and processing intersectional identities affected by culture, race, and sociocultural constructs that shape our existence. If you are ready to begin this exploratory journey, please feel free to call or email me to set up our first consultation.
I approach therapy using an integrated lens, incorporating models such as Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Relational Therapy. I hold two master's degrees, one in General Psychology and the other in Mental Health Counseling. Additionally, I have completed a fellowship in working with the LGBTQIA population from the KIP Initiative for Psychotherapy. I am continually acquiring certifications to enhance my professional growth and expand my expertise.
Away from work, I am a devoted mom to two wonderful children. In my spare time, I indulge in painting, writing poems, and practicing henna art. Professionally, I am engaged in creating educational content for social media, dedicating time to further education and research. I work with the AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy) Research team, contributing to advancements in this field.

I am currently pursuing my degree in Mental Health Counseling at Long Island University, driven by a deep passion for helping individuals—both children and adults—achieve happiness, fulfillment, and a sense of meaning in their lives. As a clinician, my role is to provide compassionate guidance through talk therapy, offering emotional support and resources that foster personal growth and healing.
My therapeutic approach is holistic and multicultural, grounded in cultural humility and a deep respect for each person’s unique experiences. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where individuals feel heard, valued, and empowered. I view each person through both a scientific and humanistic lens, recognizing them as the author of their own story. My work is informed by psychodynamic principles, and I integrate empathy, compassion, and a deep commitment to Respect for All (RFA) into every session.
To best support my clients, I incorporate evidence-based approaches, including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Client-Centered Therapy, tailoring treatment to each individual’s needs. As a gender-affirming and protective ally, I am dedicated to advocating for individuals with diverse gender identities, ensuring they feel seen, respected, and supported in their therapeutic journey.
My goal is to walk alongside my clients as they navigate their personal path toward healing, self-discovery, and emotional well-being.
